The Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) began its journey in 1947 upon the independence of Pakistan. Initially run through a Trust, financial difficulties led the Government to take control of the agency through an Ordinance called the "Associated Press of Pakistan (Taking Over) Ordinance 1961" on June 15, 1961. Journalists were allowed to remain independent and were not considered government or semi-government employees, being subject instead to Labour Laws that cover the Newspaper Industry in Pakistan. On October 19, 2002, APP was converted into a Corporation, gaining a semi-government media status and being renamed the Associated Press of Pakistan Corporation (APPC). It is no longer administered by Labour Laws and its rules are yet to be notified by the Establishment Division, with the
